Water Glass

You are made of something

so ordinary and so astonishing:

solid become liquid

become solid again

in an entirely

new way.

No going back

to sand,

to stone. You now live

in between

what you once

were

and what you now

seem.

Clear

and steady

despite everything,

you hold

the stuff of all life

and you live

the rhythm of everything –

empty, full

empty, full

ready to receive

or

ready to offer –

two states of being

equally perfect.

Oh, I love

your simplicity,

your complexity.

I love

your transparent layers

and the magic

you make with

the light.

I love when

our lips meet

and I am quenched.
